Creating HOPE

We recently had the privilege of partnering with the Consortium for Humanitarian Service and Education (CHSE) for Creating HOPE 2025: Helene + 1, a post-crisis learning exercise for disaster preparedness and resilience. 

Emergency professionals, academics and student practitioners from around the country convened in the Upstate to examine the cascading effects of the storm,

illuminate post-crisis recovery efforts and

prepare attendees to lead in future disasters through actionable learning and cross-sector collaboration.

Attendees participated in Café Helene, an

exercise involving four tables of active dialogue. After spending 15 minutes at each table, everyone came together to discuss common themes in the lessons learned and lessons forward.

The two-day event also included panels on preparing tomorrow's emergency managers; the impacts of Helene and disasters on responders and communities; and the roles, importance and preparation of citizen emergency responders.

Participants then wrapped up Creating HOPE 2025: Helene + 1 with interactive emergency operations exercises using real-world scenarios at the Spartanburg County Emergency Management office.
